TigTag

In May 2021 the Chinese telecommunications forum known as TigTag suffered a significant data breach. An unauthorized party managed to access the user database resulting in the exposure of approximately 1.6 million records. The compromised data included sensitive information such as usernames and email addresses. Additionally the breach contained IP addresses and passwords stored as MD5 hashes which are susceptible to cracking. This incident highlights the security risks associated with legacy hashing algorithms and the targeting of community forums in the region.
