In July 2022 the Russian energy holding TNS Energo suffered a significant cyberattack by threat actors who successfully breached their internal systems. Following a rejected ransom demand the attackers leaked the compromised databases across multiple regional divisions. The breach primarily exposed a large volume of email addresses however the datasets also contained sensitive personal identifiers including full names and mobile phone numbers along with hashed passwords encrypted using the bcrypt algorithm. This incident affected various regional branches of the utility provider exposing both consumer and corporate communication data.
