On September 11 2014 the video sharing platform Tout.com suffered a significant data breach. Attackers managed to compromise the website database which served as a mobile digital video recording tool often used by journalists. The incident led to the exposure of sensitive user credentials and technical metadata. Security analysis revealed that while passwords were protected by Bcrypt hashing they were still part of the exfiltrated dataset. The breach impacted nearly eight hundred thousand registered users globally highlighting vulnerabilities in social media and mobile video services during that period.
