The official portal of Tula city administration suffered a data breach in August 2023. An unauthorized actor gained access to the database and leaked information belonging to portal users. The incident exposed personal details and security credentials for approximately 6900 individuals. The leaked passwords were stored using the MD5 hashing algorithm with salt which is considered cryptographically weak by modern standards. This exposure of government portal data poses a risk of unauthorized access to municipal services and potential phishing attacks targeting residents and employees.
