In early 2016 the virtual private network service for gamers known as Tunngle experienced a major data breach. The incident resulted in the exposure of a database containing information for approximately 8.1 million users. The compromised data included sensitive details such as usernames email addresses and IP addresses as well as passwords stored as salted IPB hashes. The breach was significant due to the large community of gamers using the software for multiplayer connectivity before the service eventually ceased operations.
