About this leak

A massive data breach involving the Turkish Citizenship Database was publicly released in April 2016. The leak exposed personal information of nearly 50 million citizens which is more than half of the national population at that time. The data was posted online via a peer to peer network and included highly sensitive identifiers. Security researchers suggested the incident was a result of poor security practices or a targeted hack against government systems to influence political sentiment. The file contained approximately 6.6 gigabytes of uncompressed data used for identity verification and administrative purposes.
