In December 2020 Ubisoft confirmed a security incident involving its Ubisoft Connect service. Threat actors gained unauthorized access to internal systems via a security misconfiguration. The breach exposed account details of millions of users worldwide including encrypted credentials and profile information. Ubisoft advised users to change their passwords and enable two factor authentication following the discovery of the intrusion. While payment information was not compromised the leak highlighted vulnerabilities in the gaming giants infrastructure and led to a temporary disruption of services during the investigation.
