In 2021 the tourist information portal Ukraine.com suffered a cyberattack that led to the compromise of its user database. The incident resulted in the exposure of approximately 23000 accounts. The leaked data included sensitive information such as user nicknames email addresses and IP addresses. Additionally the database contained user passwords stored in the MD5 hashing format with salt which is considered cryptographically weak by modern security standards. The breach highlights vulnerabilities in legacy hashing methods and the targeting of regional travel portals by malicious actors.
