In October 2022 the educational platform UnionePro associated with Innopolis University in Russia experienced a significant data breach. An unauthorized party gained access to the database and published information belonging to approximately 112 thousand users. The leaked data includes highly sensitive personal identifiable information such as full names, mobile phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, tax identification numbers known as INN, insurance account numbers known as SNILS, and passport details. Additionally the breach exposed user passwords stored as SHA256 hashes which poses a security risk despite the encryption. The incident highlights vulnerabilities in educational infrastructure and the high value of student and faculty data for malicious actors.
