In May 2021 the Unix community forum experienced a significant security incident involving the unauthorized access of its database. The breach impacted approximately 169 thousand registered members. The compromised data included sensitive information such as usernames, email addresses, IP addresses, and dates of birth. Additionally, passwords stored as vBulletin hashes were exposed, putting users at risk of credential cracking. The incident highlights vulnerabilities often found in older forum software versions and the importance of robust hashing algorithms.
