In August 2016 the Unreal Engine forum suffered a significant data breach allegedly caused by a SQL injection vulnerability within the vBulletin software platform. This security incident resulted in the exposure of personal information belonging to approximately 530000 registered users. The compromised data included user account details such as names and email addresses along with password hashes protected by MD5 salts which are considered cryptographically weak by modern standards.
