USA.Life is a social media platform marketed as a conservative alternative to Facebook. In early 2020 the company suffered a significant data breach when an unauthorized actor accessed its backend database. The compromised information was subsequently posted on a popular hacking forum for public download. The incident exposed sensitive account details of nearly 145 thousand members. Technical analysis revealed that the leak included a variety of hashing algorithms for passwords including SHA-1 and BCRYPT which varies the level of difficulty for potential decryption by malicious actors.
