In early 2016 the uTorrent community forum was compromised leading to the exposure of its user database. The breach affected an IP.Board based system where attackers gained access to sensitive member information. The incident was part of a larger series of forum hacks during that period. The leaked data included account details for nearly four hundred thousand users. Security researchers identified that the passwords were stored using a salted hashing algorithm but the specific implementation was vulnerable to cracking attempts.
