In April 2018 the Vbenterprisetranslator forum which specialized in machine and manual translation software suffered a significant data breach. An attacker managed to obtain a SQL database dump containing approximately 1.2 million user records. The compromised data included sensitive information such as usernames email addresses and salted MD5 password hashes. This incident exposed the community members to potential credential stuffing and phishing attacks especially since the MD5 hashing algorithm is considered weak by modern security standards.
