About this leak
In early 2019 the email validation service Verifications.io exposed a massive MongoDB database to the public internet without any password protection. Security researchers discovered the unprotected instance which contained hundreds of millions of records used for email marketing verification. The exposure included a vast array of personal details such as email addresses, phone numbers, and IP addresses. Additionally, some records contained more granular information like mortgage rates and interest profiles. This incident is considered one of the largest non-password data exposures in history due to the sheer volume of unique email identities involved.
