In April 2020 the Nepal based internet service provider Vianet Communications experienced a significant data breach. The incident resulted in the unauthorized exposure of personal information belonging to approximately 177000 customers. The leaked data was shared on social media platforms including Twitter by an attacker using the handle nclay. Security researchers confirmed that the breach was likely caused by a vulnerability in the company server or application interface allowing unauthorized access to the customer database.
