VimeWorld

In July 2018 the popular Russian Minecraft server network VimeWorld suffered a significant data breach. An unauthorized third party gained access to the central database resulting in the exposure of millions of player accounts. The leaked information included sensitive user credentials and technical identifiers. Analysis revealed that while some passwords used the Bcrypt hashing algorithm roughly 90 percent were stored using the weaker MD5 hashing method making them highly vulnerable to cracking and exploitation by malicious actors.
