A massive dataset containing public profile information of approximately 115 million users from the Russian social media platform VKontakte was identified in early 2023. The incident originated from large scale automated scraping or parsing of the platform. The data includes personal identifiers such as full names and mobile phone numbers alongside public profile details like educational background and account avatars. While the data was technically public on user profiles the centralized aggregation into a searchable database significantly increases the risk of targeted social engineering and phishing attacks against the affected user base.
