VK 2017

In 2017 a large dataset containing information from the Russian social network VKontakte was exposed online. The breach included approximately 27.1 million records. The data appears to have been collected through various means including potential credential stuffing or previous compromises of third party services where users reused passwords. The leaked files contained sensitive user identifiers such as email addresses linked to accounts along with names and mobile phone numbers making users vulnerable to phishing and social engineering attacks.
