In 2022 a database involving VK Pay users was exposed through automated data scraping techniques known as parsing. The incident resulted in the collection of personal details from approximately 164 thousand individuals. The leaked information primarily consists of mobile phone numbers and full names which were publicly accessible through the platforms transfer interface. This type of exposure allows third parties to link identities with phone numbers increasing the risk of targeted social engineering and phishing attacks against the affected users.
