In early 2023 a data breach involving the Lipetsk Research Institute of Seed Selection and Technology known as VNIIRAPSA was identified after a database surfaced on a popular hacking forum. The incident exposed sensitive internal information and user credentials of the organization. The leaked data includes approximately 26 thousand records containing user nicknames email addresses and cryptographic hashes of passwords. This breach poses a significant risk to the affected individuals as the information could be used for credential stuffing or further targeted social engineering attacks against the research facility.
