In December 2018, the digital shopping platform Wanelo suffered a significant data breach affecting approximately 23 million users. The incident involved the unauthorized access and extraction of a large database containing sensitive user credentials. The leaked information included unique email addresses and account passwords stored as MD5 or bcrypt hashes. This breach surfaced on the dark web and was later verified by security researchers as a major exposure of consumer data from the social commerce site.
