In 2017 the Minecraft server community WarandWork suffered a significant security breach when its database was compromised by unauthorized actors. The incident resulted in the exposure of personal information belonging to approximately 77 thousand registered users. The leaked data contained sensitive details including email addresses and usernames. Furthermore the breach included IP addresses and passwords stored using the weak MD5 hashing algorithm which is highly susceptible to cracking. This compromise occurred during a period of frequent targeting against gaming communities and private server infrastructures.
