Wattpad

In June 2020 the social storytelling platform Wattpad suffered a massive data breach that exposed the personal information of approximately 270 million users. The incident involved a large scale database theft where attackers gained access to sensitive user details including full names and email addresses. The data was subsequently sold on the darknet and eventually shared for free on various hacker forums. Technical analysis revealed that while passwords were protected using the Bcrypt hashing algorithm they were still part of the compromised dataset alongside other metadata such as IP addresses and dates of birth.
