A massive dataset containing personal information of WhatsApp users was exposed following a broader security incident involving Facebook systems in 2019. The leak originated from a vulnerability that allowed scrapers to harvest user data at scale. The final processed dataset contained records for approximately 367 million unique users after deduplication. The data was organized by country and primarily consisted of mobile phone numbers linked to user accounts. This incident raised significant privacy concerns regarding how social media platforms protect interconnected user identifiers across different services.
