WhitePages

In mid 2016 the online directory and people search service WhitePages suffered a significant data breach. This incident came to light in early 2019 when the stolen database was put up for sale on darknet marketplaces. The breach involved the unauthorized access to a backend database containing information on over 11 million unique users. The exposed data sets included sensitive personal identifiers and security credentials. Passwords within the database were stored using either SHA-1 or Bcrypt hashing algorithms. This breach was part of a larger wave of historical hacks that surfaced simultaneously during that period.
