In October 2018 the adult oriented website WifeLovers suffered a significant data breach. The incident involved the exposure of user account details which were later distributed as part of a larger collection containing data from eight different adult websites. The breach originated from a compromise of the site database where user information was stored. Security analysis revealed that the passwords were protected with weak hashing algorithms making them vulnerable to cracking. The company acknowledged the security violation after the data appeared on public hacking forums.
