In July 2022 the WiredBucks platform which marketed itself as a social earning network suffered a significant data breach. The incident led to the exposure of sensitive personal information belonging to approximately 920000 users. Security researchers found that the data was accessible due to poor security practices allowing unauthorized parties to obtain database records. The leak is particularly dangerous because it included passwords stored in plain text format making user accounts highly vulnerable to immediate takeover and credential stuffing attacks on other platforms.
