Wishbone.io 2016

In August 2016 the popular social voting application Wishbone suffered a significant data breach. An unauthorized party gained access to an unprotected MongoDB database containing millions of user records. The incident exposed sensitive personal information of many underage users who utilized the mobile platform for daily polls. The leak was primarily caused by a lack of proper security configurations on the backend database server allowing external access without authentication.
