About this leak
In January 2020 the social comparison mobile application Wishbone suffered a major data breach. This incident followed a previous security failure in 2016. The 2020 leak involved the exposure of millions of user records including personal details and credentials. Security researchers discovered that the user passwords were poorly protected using the MD5 hashing algorithm without any salt making them highly vulnerable to cracking and credential stuffing attacks. The data was subsequently traded and shared across various hacking forums and darknet communities.
