In May 2023 a significant data breach occurred at the Russian student consultancy service Work5. The incident involved an unauthorized access to the company database which was subsequently offered for sale on dark web forums for five hundred dollars. The leaked information contains approximately one million user records. The data set includes sensitive technical details such as MD5 hashed passwords alongside personal contact information and service interaction logs. This leak exposes students and users to potential phishing attacks and credential stuffing due to the nature of the password hashing used.
