Xat

In November 2015 the web based chat provider Xat experienced a major security breach. Attackers managed to compromise the database resulting in the exposure of approximately 6 million user accounts. The incident involved the unauthorized access to sensitive user metadata and credentials. Although passwords were hashed the specific algorithm used was not initially identified causing significant concern for the user base across its global chat network.
