Yam

In June 2013 the Taiwanese web portal Yam experienced a significant data breach that later surfaced on a hacker forum in 2021. The incident involved the exposure of sensitive user credentials and personal details. The leaked database contained information for approximately thirteen million accounts. Technical analysis revealed that the data included usernames and passwords hashed using the MD5 algorithm without any additional salt making them highly vulnerable to cracking via brute force or rainbow table attacks. Other personal identifiers such as phone numbers and physical addresses were also compromised during this event.
