In June 2020 the Mexican peer to peer lending platform Yotepresto suffered a data breach. The incident involved an unauthorized access to the company database resulting in the exposure of sensitive user information. The breach impacted approximately 1.4 million customers. Compromised data included personal identifiers and security credentials. Passwords were stored using the bcrypt hashing algorithm but were still part of the exfiltrated dataset. The platform serves as a credit and investment marketplace connecting borrowers with investors in Mexico.
