In September 2016 the Ukrainian marketplace Zakupka suffered a significant data breach when hackers compromised their systems and extracted a database exceeding 25GB in size. The incident exposed sensitive information of approximately 1.2 million users including contact details and account credentials. The breach involved the extraction of MD5 salted password hashes alongside extensive personal identifiers. This leak represents a major exposure for the Ukrainian e-commerce sector during that period due to the volume of transactional and personal data involved.
