Zhenai

In December 2011 the Chinese dating service Zhenai suffered a significant data breach. The incident resulted in the unauthorized exposure of personal information belonging to approximately 5 million registered users. The leaked database surfaced on various underground hacker forums and contained sensitive credentials stored in an insecure manner. The primary cause of the incident was attributed to poor security practices on the server side which allowed attackers to extract the subscriber database. This breach highlighted early security vulnerabilities in the growing Chinese social and dating market during that period.
