Zomato

In May 2017 the restaurant search and discovery service Zomato suffered a significant security breach. An unauthorized party gained access to the database containing records of approximately 17 million users. The breach resulted in the exposure of user identifiers including email addresses and hashed passwords. The company confirmed that the hacker likely used an internal exploit or compromised credentials to access the production database. Zomato responded by resetting passwords for all affected users and enhancing their security protocols to transition toward more secure hashing algorithms.
