In September 2019 the social game developer Zynga suffered a massive data breach affecting millions of players. A hacker known as Gnosticplayers claimed responsibility for the intrusion stating they gained access to a database containing information of users who installed Words with Friends and Draw Something. The compromised data included account information for approximately 173 million unique users. The breach involved the extraction of personal details and login credentials which were stored in a database server. Zynga officially acknowledged the incident and notified affected users about the potential exposure of their account data.
